The Mare Above The Thread
This was my first thesis film for Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. I was selected by the director to edit this film. Being brought on during the early stages of preproduction is essential to the story telling process. During set I was DIT and scripty taking comprehensive notes during the filming process. We filmed for six days and multiple locations. I was even able to spend time on set getting dailies ready for my director to watch at the end of the shooting day. Having my notes and organized hard drives made the editing process that much smoother.
We were in post production for four months. Working closely with the director we completely rewrote the film during the editing process. The story changed directions multiple times as we tried to find the right story to tell. Having my directors support to play around with the footage and constantly show him things I was experimenting with kept us engaged and thinking about what could be done with the footage. After getting picture lock in three months we spent the last month on sound and color. This was my first time editing a film with horror elements throughout and I hope I get to do more in the future.
